UK NEQAS gives objective information and advice to clinical laboratories throughout laboratory medicine on the quality of their analytical and interpretative performance, in order to help them provide accurate and reliable test results and advice to clinicians, which facilitates optimal patient care. Advances in our understanding of genetic diseases has led to a revolution in testing technologies. UK NEQAS is committed to providing external quality assessment in this rapidly evolving field.
UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics provides external quality assessment for a range of inherited diseases currently tested in diagnostic molecular genetic laboratories. For more information on the UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics see Introduction.

*POOR PERFORMANCE CRITERIA*
The poor performance criteria for all external quality assessment schemes offered by the UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics are have been reviewed following recommendations from the Joint Working Group on Quality Assurance.  Full details of UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics Poor Performance criteria can be found in the Participants' Manual.

*Your are invited to the UK NEQAS Molecular Pathology Participants' Meeting 2013*

UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics and UK NEQAS for Immunocytochemistry and ISH invite you to attend a one day Participants' Meeting on Wednesday 22nd May, 2013 in Edinburgh. This meeting will cover issues related to molecular pathology testing. The morning session will focus on the importance of tumour assessment, good DNA extraction procedures and will give a summary of the advantages/disadvantages of different testing methods available.

The afternoon sessions will cover non-small cell lung cancer and colorectal cancer with presentations from Pathologists, Oncologists and Scientists.

UK NEQAS is pleased to announce that no delegate fee will be charged.

Online registration is now open at http://molpath.org.uk/2013/ and full meeting details are provided.

*Unclassified Sequence Variants Participants' Meeting 2013*

UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics hosted a one day Participants' Meeting on Friday 1st March, 2013 in Edinburgh. This meeting focused on the issues arising from the 2012 Pathogenicity of Sequence Variants pilot EQA scheme and incorporated a workshop to discuss the current draft Best Practice Guidelines on reporting Sequence Variants.

The invited speakers have kindly given their permission for their presentations to be available on this website. Please see the links below.

*New*

* PGD Microarray/24 Chromosome analysis pilot EQA*
UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics and CEQA are pleased to announce that a pilot EQA will be offered for PGD Microarray/24 Chromosome analysis during 2013.  This pilot scheme is currently underway but if you would like to participate in future EQA runs then please contact us on info@ukneqas-molgen.org.uk

* Next Generation Sequencing pilot EQA*
UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics in conjunction with EMQN will be offering a pilot scheme for Next Generation Sequencing during 2012-13.  This pilot scheme is currently underway but if your laboratory would be interested in participating in future EQA runs then please contact us on info@ukneqas-molgen.org.uk

*Pathogenicity of sequence variants pilot EQA*
A pilot scheme was been introduced in 2012 for laboratories to address the issue of determining the pathogenicity of sequence variants.  Following on from the success of this pilot EQA we are pleased to annouce that this EQA will be offered during 2013. If your laboratory would be interested in participating then please contact the Scheme (info@ukneqas-molgen.org.uk).

*cffDNA pilot EQA*
UK NEQAS for Molecular Genetics is currently developing the cell free fetal DNA testing for sex determination pilot scheme and it will be offered during 2013.  If your laboratory would be interested in participating then please contact the Scheme (info@ukneqas-molgen.org.uk).
